Nokia 5800 XpressMusic v20.0.012 firmware upgrade available in India

I read in the official Nokia forum today morning that firmware upgrade is now officially available in India. My phone (and I believe most others) came with v11.0.008 installed. I dialled *#0000# to check if the upgrade is available FOTA (over the air, meaning: done directly on the mobile provide it has net access) and it was not.

Changelog

I then connected the mobile to my laptop and started Nokia Software Updater program. Sure enough, it detected and showed the upgrade. Note: Make sure that when you connect the mobile to your computer the mode is set to ‘PC Suite’. The upgrade file size was around 120MB. Once the download was complete, it took 5 minutes to upgrade the firmware.

After the upgrade, the phone restarted itself and prompted me to enter the date and time. The UI felt slower than earlier initially but after using it for about 10 minutes it became much faster. Search feature was not working with “System error”. I googled about this and one of the suggested fixes was to do a soft reset. That didn’t help. The fix was to remove one of the installed applications. I had one chess game that I was not using much and when I removed it, search feature started working fine.

We’ve identified my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic cell being the finest all round We’ve owned. Just wish it had a slide out qwerty keyboard! Anyway, it does not so adequate is ample. A lot of men and women whine about the camera, it does suck, but it is not that significant to me-I possess a wonderful Canon SD950 digital camera if I want pics. I am actually please with how customizable it’s and every one of the points I can perform with it. Wants charging almost every day when employed a fair bit. Pondering about debranding it. Rogers (Canada) keeps points rather locked down and the greatest fw I were capable to upgrade to is v30 (some thing like that can’t bear in mind the exact range in the moment). Sounds like v40 has some good functions I am missing out on.Nicely, glad I discovered this forum, I hope to discover a good deal more about what I can perform with my phone.
